Toddler Diarrhoea

Could your child have toddler diarrhoea?

What is Toddler Diarrhoea?

It is the most frequent cause of persistent diarrhoea in young children between the ages of 1 and 5 years. The child is usually well and their growth is good.

Symptoms include 2 or more watery, loose stools daily which tend to be more smelly, paler than usual and often have undigested foodstuffs in, especially vegetables such as peas, sweetcorn and carrots. Mild stomach pain sometimes occurs but it is unusual.

Fussy Eating

Are you worried your toddler is not eating enough?

Are mealtimes extremely stressful?

Food refusal is a completely normal part of a toddler’s development but can understandably be an extremely worrying time for parents. Toddlers may restrict the variety of foods they eat and may stop eating foods they previously loved and vice –versa. Again, this is completely normal behaviour. This phase usually improves over time but may become more apparent in some toddlers.

Fruit & Vegetables

What is a portion size?

The recommended portion size depends on your child’s age. A portion would be what fits in the palm of their hand so for example 1 portion for a toddler would be much smaller than that for a teenager.
